Over the past 12 months, FAHB has been engaging with the City of Cape Town and Oceana to better understand some of the issues surrounding the noxious smell and we have found a number of challenges and inconsistencies throughout this process. We have formally submitted a document to be raised at the next sub-council meeting which includes:
- Registering the smell as a public nuisance
- Technicalities for issuing an emissions license, including problematic areas with the complaints registration process and measures for control
- Health implications of the smell, including clarification on definitions of health and well-being, and a contradiction of information received from City Health
- Breach of the Air Quality Management By-Law
The document has been received by the City of Cape Town and will be addressed at the sub-council meeting in May 2015. We are hoping to receive a direct response to the questions raised which will help us in our process of moving forward. You can access the document here and we will provide further updates as they are received.
